Export to Shopify

Pick a section on any website and add it to your Shopify theme as a section you can edit in the theme customizer.

Where to click ToolbarExportShopifyCopy section
PocketUI names the file for you. Copy the section.

Steps

  1. 1

Click Export in the toolbar, then Shopify.

  2. 2

Hover the section you want and click it.

  3. 3

The panel shows a file name ending in .liquid. Click Copy section.

  4. 4

In Shopify, go to Online Store → Themes. Next to your theme, click ⋯ → Edit code.

  5. 5

In the Sections folder, click Add a new section. Name it exactly as the panel shows, without .liquid.

  6. 6

Select all the pre-filled code and delete it, then paste.

This is the step that matters: Shopify fills a new section with a template. Pasting under it breaks the file and it will not save.

  7. 7

    Click Save.

  8. 8

Open the theme customizer (Customize), click Add section, and pick your new section.

What you get

  • A theme section that shows up in the customizer.
  • Its headings, text, images and links as settings you can change without code.
  • Images as image pickers, with a placeholder until you choose one.

Tips

  • Prefer a file? Click Download: it keeps the exact name the section must have.
  • If the panel shows an amber note, read it first: it says whether the section will look right.
  • It works with Shopify's own themes, Dawn and Horizon.
  • Export to the same place every day? Right-click its petal in the Export fan and choose Pin to front. It then sits in the toolbar row, one click away.
